Most people hated the story of The Last of us 2, and many would agree that this is not how the sequel to the first game should have turned out.
First, they lied about the main part of the game many times. They said Ellie was the only playable character, but for about half of the game, you are forced to play one of the most hated characters. The trailers showed Joel and Ellie’s older models together which hinted to Joel being a big part of the game, but in game they switched the models for the scene to the younger Joel and Ellie and made it a flashback.
Second, the story of the game is terrible. When people bought this game, they wanted to see more of the time between Joel and Ellie. It’s what made the first game so good. They took away everything fans loved from the first game by killing Joel in the most terrible way possible, and having Ellie begging for mercy and having to watch it. After having Abby heartlessly kill Ellie’s father figure in front of her while she’s begging for mercy, they try to make it look like Ellie and Joel were always the bad guys. The game tries to guilt trip you many times about the terrible things Ellie did when she killed Abby’s team, but most were killed in self defense, and after she did kill them she felt guilt and traumatized. But Abby never had remorse for the bad things she did. After all of that, in the end, Ellie loses Dina, her baby, and with her fingers bit off, she can no longer play guitar, which is her last connection to Joel, and Abby is left without consequences or remorse. The story sucks in this game because it is incredibly wrong and unjustified, and it needs to be fixed because it ruins the last of us
