Concerned Faculty started this petition to NAU faculty and staff

Recently, NAU News announced that the university had received a Virtual Innovation Award: Excellence in Delivering Virtual Student Services. This award comes from NASPA - a professional organization for Student Affairs administrators with over 15,000 members at 2,100 institutions. Information on NAU's activities can be found in the news article at https://news.nau.edu/virtual-innovation-award/#.YB1rp-dlDcs

In the news article, President Cheng stated, "“We are honored to receive this recognition from NASPA, which is a leading organization in student affairs,” NAU President Rita Cheng said. “Even before the pandemic, many of our divisions and teams were committed to implementing solutions to keep students engaged, and as we all shifted into a more virtual mode, they have found even more ways to reach students wherever they are. We’re pleased to see those efforts recognized and looking forward to continue our innovation.”

While President Cheng expressed pleasure in having NAU recognized, and acknowledged that many of our divisions and teams are committed to increased student engagement, she did not thank or recognize our Student Affairs professionals directly for their work. We believe that this recognition is deserved and should be clearly expressed.

Through this petition we, the faculty and staff at NAU, express our direct appreciation to our student affairs colleagues. We thank you for your hard work, ability to change processes quickly, and your dedication to helping the institution and our students navigate this pandemic with as little disruption as possible.
