Stop corporate branding of UK's walking trails

Consumerism has a tight grip on every aspect of modern life. The countryside is one of the only places people can go to escape the effects of corporate tyranny. Funding cuts, however, have prompted Natural England, the British government's adviser on protecting the environment, to sell out these natural spaces, some of the few gems remaining in an increasingly commercial world, to corporate sponsorship. Natural England's plan has many implications, such as potential usage fees for exploring the trails.

Whatever the repercussions, there is no doubt that, should the plan be implemented, walking the trails will go from a free activity enjoyed by families, individuals, couples, and friends, to another consumable controlled by big business; from a right that everyone benefits from, to a privilege that only those who have the cash will be able to enjoy.

There are other means to fund the maintenance of its historic, natural trails, and Natural England needs to find them. Corporatization is the easy way out, and the easy way is never the answer!
