CHANGE CHARLOTTE COUNTYS MISOGYNISTIC DRESSCODE
CHANGE CHARLOTTE COUNTYS MISOGYNISTIC DRESSCODE

As a Charlotte county high school student I’m demanding change on the sexist and inconsistent dress-code. I speak for the women students at Charlotte county when I say the dress-code does nothing but shame women. For example one of the rules is no skin is allowed to show above the knee I personally got dresscoded for this reason recently for a skirt that was well below my finger tips while wearing knee high socks so we’re talking a couple inches of my lower thigh showing got me called out of class and threatened with ISS. Upon me walking back to class from the discipline office I counted 3 men wearing shorts shorter then the skirt I was wearing what I forgot to mention was that the lady who dresscoded me was wearing a dress that revealed her thighs. The women of Charlotte county including myself are sick and tired of the sexualization and discrimination and demand change. We are asking for revisions on the following dress code rules
-“Tops and dresses which have sleeves”
this is obviously targeted to girls our shoulders are not inappropriate or distracting- we also live in florida with 90° weather year round
-“pants, skorts, shorts, skirts and dresses whose length is about the knee or longer when standing. Pants skorts shorts and skirts are to be fastened at the waist if pants skort shorts skirt or dress has a leotard or leggings etc. underneath the pants skort shorts skirt or dress still must meet appropriate length sheet leggings are not a substitute for pants and pants with tears or rips above the knee can only be worn with clothing that covers exposed skin and undergarments”
this one is a big issue we understand school is preparing us for success and we need to dress appropriately however when and HOW was it determined that leg above the knee is inappropriate, the answer… ITS NOT! We’re asking for this rule to be revised and loosened not completely taken away.
-“ halters, backless or sleeveless dresses or tops, spaghetti straps, tube tops, tank tops, muscle shirts, tops with low or revealing neckline or any other clothing which may be distracting unless covered by inappropriate outer garment which remains as part of the outfit. In addition the midriff she’ll not be exposed”
- this is also a big issue these rules are objectifying us “us” meaning women most of these items are traditionally worn by women. These rules are also unfairly enforced on certain body types for example a bustier CHILD let’s not forget that we’re children could be wearing the same shirt as a women that’s less developed and the bustier girl would be the one targeted. Why are we living in this made up society that shames little girls for their natural body. These rules signal that girls bodies are are sexual and distracting. Thank you for your time.
