Stop airlines from unethically charging passengers for seating in NTSB required exit rows.
Stop airlines from unethically charging passengers for seating in NTSB required exit rows.
THE AIR TRAVELING PUBLIC IS BEING CHEATED
This petition is currently on the desk of the Congresswoman representing Florida's 23rd District, as well as the National Transportation Safety Board, Washington, D.C. Additionally the FAA and IATA Montreal have been notified.
For ease of reading, this is an excerpt from the three page petition to Congress. It needs actual/current support of airline passengers to be acted upon.
In the increasingly unfriendly air transport environment, where frequent fliers are so disillusioned that we submit to paying for checked-in luggage once carried free-of-charge and (now) pay for bottles of water on several carriers, there still exists one uncontested, most unethical practice:
THE VAST MAJORITY OF AIRLINES INCREASE THE COST OF AIRFARE FOR PASSENGERS TO BE SEATED IN EMERGENCY EXIT ROWS THAT ARE WIDENED TO COMPLY WITH NTSB SAFETY REQUIREMENTS.
IT IS ETHICALLY IMPROPER AND NEARLY FRAUDULENT BUSINESS PRACTICE THAT AIRLINES GARNER PROFIT BY ABUSING THE NTSB REQUIREMENT THAT EMERGENCY EXIT ROWS MUST BE WIDER FOR CRISIS EGRESS. PARTICULARLY SO WHEN THIS SPACE IS MISREPRESENTED AS "EXTRA LEG ROOM."
Several air carriers have had the audacity to trademark their exit rows, thereby making the extra few inches a legally protected product. On the contrary, the seats in these rows are actually narrower.
To entice passengers to purchase an exit row, several airlines offer free alcohol. In the interest of public safety, this is not what we want... Passengers adjacent emergency exit windows drinking free-of-charge.
It is time to rein-in these airline abuses. We encourage you to sign this important petition and get onboard! Your signature will effect world travel change because once the NTSB and FAA end such charges, other nations' carriers will comply in order to be able to fly into the U.S.
Thank you for your support.
