On the 28th March 2017 Conservative MP Suella Fernandes introduced a bill in the House of Commons which aims to reform the way child contact is decided following a divorce.
This legislation, called the Family Justice Bill 2016-17, would establish a presumption of shared parenting in child arrangement orders. Fernandes believes that the current system is failing non-resident parents and often leaving them with no option but to “spend huge amounts of money in the courts with little guarantee of a fair outcome”.
She also states
"The welfare of the child is paramount -that is an abiding and unassailable principle of family law-and children are less likely to experience depression, teenage pregnancy and delinquency when relationships with both parents are safeguarded, while children without a father in their life often struggle to reach their full potential academically, socially and professionally, but the law does not reflect this because of the failure to crack down on intransigent parents, and because judges and social workers turn a blind eye to parental alienation".
The Bill was due to be heard again in May 2017 but was suspended due to the election.
Here is what the Children and Family Court Advisory & Support Service say
On 12th February 2017 the Chief Executive of CAFCASS was interviewed in the Daily Telegraph stating
"Divorced parents who "brainwash" their children against ex partners are guilty of " abuse".The deliberate manipulation of a child by one parent against the other has become so common in family breakdown that it should be dealt with like any other form of neglect or child abuse"
On the 3rd Nov. 2011 the Prime Minister, the then Home Secretary ,appeared on an edition of BBC Question Time ( available on www.You Tube ) where the topic was discussed.
Mrs May states the issue of shared parenting had
“ caused concern for members of parliament across the house for some considerable time “

By ensuring the new shared parenting bill is heard again in the House of Commons and passed as legislation it will prevent emotional abuse of children following separation /divorce.
