Save our climbs
Save our climbs
Why this petition matters
This petition is to call for the re-establishment of and a stop to closing climbing and abseiling spots in the Illawarra. Having free access to areas of recreation in our national parks and state conservation areas allows for physical health and mental well being for many who enjoy the outdoors. With arbitrary closures of well recognised and proven areas for outdoor recreation, climbing and abseiling enthusiasts will be forced to over use other areas causing more degradation than would ordinarily exist.
Many youth groups, families, and disabled persons enjoy the free access to our nature reserves. National Parks and Wildlife are constantly discouraging or banning access to these areas for recreation for non-evidenced based reasons. We need to stop the unforgiving closures to our parks so they can be enjoyed by generations to come.
A reasonable solution instead of straight bans would be; Areas that have already been cultivated for the purpose of safe climbing and abseiling should be allowed to stay open for access. A memorandum of understanding that no new areas are to be bolted or cultivated by the climbing community. Unhindered access to enjoy the Australian nature would be encouraged.
If you wish to see generations stay in tune with their natural environment, then please sign this petition and stop the anti-access culture of National Patks and Wildlife.
