Summary: If you agree that entries for HS should be added to the NIAMS website, please join me in signing this petition.
Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic, inflammatory dermatological disease that causes severe physical pain and poses a heavy emotional burden.
Facts about HS:
- HS is common and affects an estimated 1-4% of the population
- HS is more prevalent in women and African Americans
- HS is deserving of far more research, more efficacious/safer treatments and more mainstream publicity
The NIAMS has a well-designed, useful website showcasing various dermatological diseases. It would be a step in the right direction for the NIAMS to include HS on their Skin Diseases webpage, as well as in their Health Topics Directory as linked here:
NIAMS Skin Diseases webpage: https://www.niams.nih.gov/health-topics/skin-diseases
NIAMS Health Topics directory webpage: https://www.niams.nih.gov/health-topics/all-diseases#H (linked it directly to the "H" section where HS could go)
This is a small ask that would mean a lot to the many people suffering from this debilitating, relentless disease. If you agree that entries for HS should be added to the NIAMS website, please join me in signing this petition.
NIAMS is (based on my current understanding) considering my proposal to make these additions and I'm very grateful to them for that. Everyone I interacted with at the Office of the Surgeon General, NIH, Office of Minority Health and the NIAMS was very kind, responsive and courteous and that is much appreciated.
