The New York Islanders fan base has endured heartache for far too long. Whether it be from decades long lack of success mainly due to poor management, a stretch of financial difficulties, the team having played the last four seasons in a venue with the poorest ice conditions and seating arrangements in the entire league, and lastly, the face of the franchise departing as an Unrestricted Free Agent from the only team he has ever known since he was drafted.

A professional hockey team that was once a dynasty which flourished on Long Island for many years has been in disarray ever since. It was not until last year where the pieces of a very large puzzle were slowly starting to come together. This jigsaw came into existence early last year with the announcement of the New York Islanders winning the bid to have developers build a new state-of-the-art arena at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York, thus, solidifying their permanent return home to Long Island. The dream continued as the organization hired hockey executive genius, Lou Lamoriello, along with future Hall of Famer, new head coach, Barry Trotz. The fairy tale continued as Gary Bettman and the National Hockey League announced that the New York Islanders will be playing half of their 2018-2019, 2019-2020, 2020-2021 regular seasons, at NYCB Live at Nassau Coliseum, allowing us, the "Islanders Faithful", to "Rock The Barn" once again until the Belmont Arena is built.

From last summer up until the start of this season, NHL analysts and hockey sportscasters from all over had the New York Islanders poised to come in close to last in both divisional and league standings. Well let me tell you one thing, not only have the "Islanders Faithful" been "Rocking The Barn" since December 1st, 2018, but we have been the "6th Man" throughout this entire season. Each and every player on this team can feel the energy while playing at "The Barn" and have been feeding off it. This is among other reasons why the New York Islanders are currently at the top of the standings. Not only have we been making a tremendous amount of noise in Uniondale, but the New York Islanders have been making waves throughout the entire season, taking this league by storm. The statistics do not lie nor have the outcomes of the games played so far. This may seem like a mirage to many, similar in fashion to the Vegas Golden Knights' inaugural season last year. Just how the Golden Knights rose up quickly, this team has made a statement with their level of play so far; they are a Stanley Cup contending team and are destined to bring those "Dynasty Years" back.

Commissioner Bettman, we listened to your 2019 State of the League Address and saw that you mentioned there is some uncertainty, should the New York Islanders make the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs, if the team will be play their home games at the Barclays Center or NYCB at Nassau Coliseum. We, the fans, have been showing up in numbers at 1255 Hempstead Turnpike in Uniondale, to prove a very important point; we want and deserve to see our team represent Long Island and play on Long Island. This decision will mainly fall on you and the National Hockey League. We know the "elephant in the room" for the league is the discussion of the profit margin difference in playing playoff hockey in Brooklyn versus Long Island.  We, the "Islanders Faithful", are not just some consumers of a product. We are dedicated New York Islanders fans who are looking forward to this team making history one more time. William Shea was the man that helped this team come to existence almost 50 years ago. The late, Charles B. Wang, did everything in his power to keep this team in New York, and tried very hard to keep them on Long Island. Let's have their legacies and that of former players, coaches, staff, and fans who are no longer with us, continue to live on. We would love nothing more but to see this team skate on the ice in the postseason where it all began, at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, for all of their home games.

Commissioner Bettman, if the time comes, we hope you will make the right decision!

Sincerely,

Islanders Faithful (13,917 and counting)
