During my trips between Kolkata and Durgapur, during the last two years, my observations about the management of the Toll Plaza, where authorities are regularly violating the Toll Plaza Guidelines and Waiting Rules:

1.      During peak hours (9 am to 11 am & 6 pm to 8 pm) on weekdays, the average waiting time at every Toll Plaza exceeds 20 minutes.

2.      No Toll Plaza keeps the lanes tagged "No-Cash"  free from vehicles without Fast Tag.

3.      During non-peak hours, instead of keeping all lanes open, they keep many lanes (may be 50%) closed, even if the que exceeds 6 vehicles on the open lanes.

We all must demand from the MINISTRY OF ROAD TRANSPORT & HIGHWAYS to ensure that the basic guidelines and the Code of Conduct for the Toll Plaza operators issued by NHAI are followed at every Toll Plazas. A few simple recommendations for the improving the service quality and waiting time:

a) Check the Fast-Tag status of the vehicle and direct vehicle in the proper lane

b) Collect the toll tax from vehicles waiting in the Que to reduce waiting time at the gate.

c) Set-up Fast Tag recharge Centres at every Toll Plaza.
