As many as 75 old trees on the govt eye hospital campus, Egmore, face the axe. It is a green lung in the heart of the city, home to hundreds of kites, mynahs, parrots and swallows, several species of mongoose, squirrels and other small animals. This area also helps in ground water levels being maintained at the peak of summer in and around the locality. This thick canopy is a gift from nature to the residents of Egmore. Saving these old trees is of utmost urgency especially in today's times where we are dealing with climate change resulting in rapidly changing weather patterns, landmass shrinkage, and other ecological disasters that are totally man made. This petition urges all to save these trees from being felled.
