Douglas Machado started this petition to National Football League and

Dear NFL organization; Roger Goodell; April Donnelly; and all appropriate personnel:

You may recall that a few years back I began a world-wide petition lobbying to have the Grateful Dead perform for the SuperBowl 50th half-time show. It would have also coincided with the 50th anniversary of the band, making it a very perfect fit for the occasion, as well as for the location playing host to the game that year. Unfortunately the band was not chosen, instead Bruno Mars was selected for the slot, but nonetheless my petition quickly spread far and wide, gathering over 14K supporters throughout the US and even as far as Japan. I've included the link to it below:

Sports Illustrated online covered a short piece on my petition, as well as various other news, radio, and media outlets. Attention was spreading rapidly, and it's unfortunate that I was unable to see it reach fruition. After this latest SuperBowl half-time performance (Maroon 5) and the disappointing feedback it recieved, I felt that it was time to toss my hat back in and give this another go, this time requesting that Dead and Company be picked to navigate the half-time helm at SuperBowl 54. This time around, I know that there are atleast 14,000 others who will be sharing my musical vision for good half-time entertainment.

To recap a bit on the artists I am requesting, it is NO secret, the well established success and history behind the Grateful Dead. They are a pure slice of true Americana, and the kind of revitalizing live sound that the Super Bowl needs to return to.

Dead & Company features former Dead rhythm guitarist and vocalist Bob Weir, and former Dead drummers Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart. It is rounded out by lead guitarist and vocalist John Mayer, bassist Oteil Burbridge (Allman Brothers band), and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. The melding of the history and sound that is the Grateful Dead, combined with the very familiar face and vocal sound of John Mayer, who is still a very relevant and current name in music culture, I believe is just the right amount of ingredient mixture to invoke sure-fire SuperBowl half-time success.

So with consideration to the all of the above, including the many supporters who have signed my initial petition, from the United States, to Japan and beyond, I submit this second petition and request to the NFL powers that be, as well as those behind the scenes in the Dead organization, to make this amazing feat a reality. To bring the remaining core four members, as well as John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge, and Jeff Chimenti,  collectively ~ Dead and Company, to the Super Bowl 54 half-time stage... Thank you dearly and sincerely for your time. ...Doug Machado. ☮
