REF: Shoppers will likely have to pay 5 to 10 cents for each disposable bag at super-marts from 2023 | ST (https://str.sg/wdJ7 )
Singapore intends to charge for single-use plastic bags in attempt to discourage excessive consumption of disposable bags & promote using reusables.
A public consultation on the guidelines will last from 27/1/22-17/2/22. You may submit your feedback via (https://go.gov.sg/feedbackcarrierbagcharge ) before its too late.
The Government's pressure to Act is majorly to blame on woke environmentalists / movements crying foul on "causes" without considering the societal repercussions arising from such change.
- Everyone unwittingly pays more for groceries, through no fault of theirs, not even inflation. Every cent of daily expenses count especially in COVID times.
- Plastic bags are secondary-use to line wastepaper bins in almost every Singaporean home - something taken for granted until now.
- By eliminating plastic bags, how will Singaporeans dispose of their house waste and keep our refuse chutes relatively clean from spilt refuse?
- Double standards are real. Look at how many ART kits we throw away daily.
We need to think realistically.
