Why this petition matters

REF: Shoppers will likely have to pay 5 to 10 cents for each disposable bag at super-marts from 2023 | ST (https://str.sg/wdJ7 )

Singapore intends to charge for single-use plastic bags in attempt to discourage excessive consumption of disposable bags & promote using reusables.

A public consultation on the guidelines will last from 27/1/22-17/2/22. You may submit your feedback via (https://go.gov.sg/feedbackcarrierbagcharge ) before its too late.

The Government's pressure to Act is majorly to blame on woke environmentalists / movements crying foul on "causes" without considering the societal repercussions arising from such change.

  1. Everyone unwittingly pays more for groceries, through no fault of theirs, not even inflation. Every cent of daily expenses count especially in COVID times.
  2. Plastic bags are secondary-use to line wastepaper bins in almost every Singaporean home - something taken for granted until now.
  3. By eliminating plastic bags, how will Singaporeans dispose of their house waste and keep our refuse chutes relatively clean from spilt refuse?
  4. Double standards are real. Look at how many ART kits we throw away daily.

We need to think realistically.
