Diabulimia is a severe eating disorder characterized by the holding back or delay of using insulin by people who have type 1 diabetes. This happens when insulin makes a person gain weight as a side effect, and it may cause people who take insulin to survive to worry about their self-image. This can cause many problems such as high blood sugar levels, sugar in one's urine, confusion, dehydration, muscle loss, diabetic ketoacidosis, high cholesterol, and many more.

Note: I'm not a professional psychologist, so if you think you or a loved one may have this, please see a doctor for a professional diagnosis and medical attention.

Diabulimia can also lead to things such as stroke, coma, and death if it keeps on for a prolonged time. The death rate for people with diabulimia is 17x the rate for death in Type 1 diabetes.

Still, the DSM-5 doesn't consider it an official eating disorder. Not only that, but treatment for bulimia doesn't effectively treat it. We need the DSM-5 to consider this an official eating disorder so we can get the people that have this disorder the help they need. If we don't, more people will keep dying and suffering from this genuinely dangerous disorder. Please consider signing and sharing this with others so we can get people the help they need and spread awareness of this disorder to other people so we can get it on the DSM-5 and get more help and awareness for these people.
