Franzyne Fernando started this petition to National Commision on Indigenous People

Over the years, with the modernization and the age of technology happening around us, the indigenous people in our country are being slowly forgotten. As if their choice of isolation is a ticket for the rest of our country to ignore them.

In the Philippines many indigenous peoples still struggle for their right to their ancestral lands to be recognized. They continue to be marginalized, suffering from lack of access to basic social services, including education, health, and other government programs. Indigenous communities have long suffered the effects of militarization. But now with the government’s continuing war on terrorism and with the president ending the peace talks with the communist rebels, it is worrying what will happen to the Lumads whom the president recently characterized as rebel sympathizers, if not rebels themselves.

Through this petition, we are hoping to get them the recognition and the just treatment that they deserve. Their rights are being violated, and we fear that it might get worse if unattended. Let us think about our fellow Filipinos who are in need of our help and assistance. Because this is one of those times that we should be showing solidarity with the whole country.
