Domestic Violence is not “just something they’re going through”. Often times, victims of domestic violence suffer in silence because domestic violence for far too many is “just something they’re going through.” As a survivor domestic, I once believed that as well. I continued to suffer being abused in the name of love. Although, I was being physically, sexually, and psychology abused by someone who claimed to love me with all of his heart, I too saw my situation as “just something they’re going through.” It wasn’t until I attended a 40 hour Domestic Violence training that the reality of what had been done to me came crashing down on me like a ton of bricks. While lack of knowledge held me hostage awareness set me free.

“Domestic Violence, commonly known as battering, is a pattern of hurtful or harmful behaviors used to establish control over an intimate partner through fear and intimidation. The behavior is abusive and usually takes the form of threats or use of violence”

Domestic violence is not just physical. It can be verbal, emotional psychological, financial, threats of violence, and isolation. It is about power and control.  Most victims stay for many reason like lack of finances or simply because they feel they have nowhere to turn.

Help spread the word that domestic violence is NOT “just something they’re going through.” Help those individuals who are suffering in silence free themselves from the never ending cycle of violence.
