Nasarawa is one out of the 36 states that makes up Nigeria. Ever since her creation in 1996, only government owned radio stations have been in Lafia, the state capital.

Dr. Nawani Aboki worked for the State faithfully and rose to the rank of a Permanent Secretary before his retirement, decided to stake his life savings to establish Breeze 99.9 FM radio station as his social contribution for the growth and development of the state.

All lawful procedures were followed to obtain broadcast license from the  National Broadcasting Commission without objection from the state government. Basic state of the art equipments were purchased and installed. Same was cited in a simple bungalow in a fenced compound housing NACWYCA, an NGO owned by the same Dr. Nawani Aboki. No town planning laws or environmental laws were infringed.

Breeze 99.9 was commissioned on the 30th March, 2017 by his Excellency, Alhaji Tanko Almakura, the Governor of Nasarawa state. Civil servants in Nasarawa state decided to embark in an industrial action early in May 2017 over unpaid salaries, allowances and other entitlements, the station decided to invite Labour leaders and government officials to her studios in order to take their views in a live programme over the strike issue. Labour leaders honoured the invitation while government officials refused to come and say their own part of the story.

What followed immediately thereafter was the marking of the broadcast studio building of the radio station with the inscription "Show Approval", inviting the management of the radio station to come to 'regularize' their documents of title. Attempts to comply with the said invitation failed due to the on-going workers strike and as ad-hoc staff know nothing on what is to be done. . Several attempts were made to appeal to the Governor fell on deaf ears.

On Friday 19th May, 2017, the studios of Breeze 99.9 FM was marked 'DEMOLITION' shortly before nightfall. By day break of 20th May, 2017, the premises was demolished under the watch of heavily armed security operatives of the same governor that commissioned it. Media rights are human rights. This is gross abuse of human right.

Kindly sign this petition to tell Alhaji Umaru Tanko Almakura  and Nasarawa State Government to reconstruct the demolished Breeze 99.9FM broadcast studio and compensate the owner for destroyed equipment as media freedom is not just an important aspect of democracy, but democracy itself.
