Now that the world is beginning to seriously consider the possibility of life on Mars, it is important to consider an appropriate name for the fungus recently discovered on the surface of the Red Planet. We propose that these fungi be named "Marshrooms."

In a day in age where the public increasingly grows at odds with the scientific community, it is important to bridge the gap that is only widening. As such, an easily accessible name should be chosen for this newly discovered fungus.

Names are best remembered when they can be associated with familiar words, and nothing is more familiar than combining two concepts as prolific as mushrooms and Mars. We should embrace this opportunity we have to make the new Martian fungus as approachable as possible.

Outside of a scientific Latin name, a casual title will make it far easier for the world to move forward after this groundbreaking discovery. We cannot risk this new scientific frontier being blocked behind complex labels and jargon incomprehensible to the general public.

For such reasons, we consider it imperative that these new Martian fungi be named "Marshrooms."
