The Western Ghats are a national ecological treasure. The state of Maharashtra is proud to host a large portion of this natural wealth within its borders and is committed to preserving its pristine glory.
Chief Minister Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray recently came across this petition that has requested the state government of Maharashtra to focus on the preservation of the Western Ghats.
Citizens and petitioners will be pleased to know that the government had already started detailed discussions regarding the conservation of the biodiversity in the Western Ghats.
The Chief Minister is personally keen and committed towards taking the necessary steps to protect and preserve the flora and fauna of the Western Ghats.
A thorough survey will be conducted soon by the respective departments in the state government, to learn about the non-forestry activities in the region.
Officials have been asked to submit a report with detailed insights, post which the final decision will be taken, especially with a view to cover maximum area under the eco sensitive zone.
Besides this, instructions have been issued to ensure safe rehabilitation of villages, marked under the corridors specified for animal activities.
The state government will also ensure that the communication is shared with the union government and officials are informed to take a passionate view in favour of protecting the flora and fauna of the Western Ghats.
The state government has consistently taken steps to ensure that development in Maharashtra does not carry any environmental cost. It stays committed to preserving biodiversity of the Western Ghats and its ecological heritage, along with that of the entire state of Maharashtra.
