Tatul Hasan Jalalyan started this petition to Narendra Modi and

Honorable Prime Minister Shree Narendra Modi

We are writing to you with sheer respect and recognition for the historic relations that India and Armenia have been maintaining over thousands of years, including Indian settlements in Armenia as early as 149 BC and Armenian settlements in India as early as 430 BC.

The modern relationship between India and Armenia is no difference – starting from India’s recognition of Armenia on 26 December 1991, three months after its independence from the Soviet Union. Diplomatic relations were established between India and Armenia on August 31st, 1992. Also, Armenia, which had opened an honorary consulate in April 1994, established its embassy in New Delhi in October 1999. The close industrial and cultural ties that Soviet Armenia and India maintained since 1955 including a prominent Armenian Diaspora presence in India since the 17th century, preceded these.

As you may know, April 24 marks the darkest moment of Armenian history from over 100 years ago. In 1915, under the cover of World War I, the Young Turks government under the Ottoman Empire started a systematic genocide against its unarmed Armenian citizens. More than one million Armenians were exterminated through direct killing, starvation, torture, and forced death marches. The rest of the Armenian population were forced to flee into permanent exile. As a result, an ancient civilization was expunged from its 2,500-year-old homeland.

Despite the formal recognition of this as a genocide by governments and parliaments of 32 countries, including Russia, Brazil, multiple states in the US, Germany, Italy, France and Canada, Turkey still denies the Armenian genocide.

During the recent war launched against the historic Armenian region of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh), which, according to its Constitution, the USSR proclaimed independent as it collapsed, Turkey attracted in its rank’s militants from Pakistan and Syria. Turkey-Pakistan-Azerbaijan trio is now growing stronger, with each showcasing clear hostility and hate towards Armenians. The terrorist trinity of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Pakistan signs military contracts and builds a new bloc, promoting an ideology of "one people three countries". Interestingly, Pakistan does not even recognize the State of Armenia.

Meanwhile - Armenians simply desire to live peacefully on lands they are indigenous to and continue to own per historic evidence. Alarmingly, Armenians are permanently and more than ever subject to the threat of a new genocide, with the current geopolitical configuration described earlier increasing the danger that Armenians are facing.

On April 24th of this year, on the occasion of the 106th anniversary of Armenian Genocide, the world will commemorate the systematic extermination of 1.5 million Armenians by the Ottoman Empire between 1915 and 1923. The facts of the slaughter are beyond dispute,

the horrors perpetrated upon the Armenian people are evidence based and factual.

Believing that India is a large democracy and assuming it is the 7th largest country in the world, representing one of the most ancient civilizations and having its historic land of Kashmir under a threat by the same evil trinity that threatens existence of Artskah and Armenians -

we call upon Indian leaders and people alike to recognize Armenian Genocide, confirming that Ottoman Empire committed atrocities as a grotesque crime against Armenians.

Considering the danger of this trinity for Kashmir, and with dearly hope from Armenians descended from genocide survivors around the world,

Armenian community.
