WOMEN, WOMEN, WOMEN! MAYBE IT RHYMES WITH SAFETY? MAYBE THATS WHY I CARRY A PEPPER SPRAY AND A SWISS KNIFE WHILE ALSO TRAVELLING TO THE NEAR BY STORE AND MAYBE THAT'S WHY I HAVE TO BE HOME BY 6:00 IN THE EVENING AND MAYBE THAT'S WHY I AM STOPPED TO ACHIEVE MY DREAMS, BY THE PEOPLE I DON'T KNOW, BY THE PEOPLE I HAVE NEVER MET, AND BY THE PEOPLE WHO DON'T MATTER TO ME.
Oh but yeah, remember those chauvinists we don't get tired of hearing about? Who certainly think it's okay to tell a woman to not to get out of the house post 7 in the evening or those judgmental strangers who tell you "WHAT TO WEAR". STOP! RIGHT AWAY, RIGHT NOW! ONE WORD- STOP!
Stop telling me what to wear, stop telling me not to go out post 8, stop telling me I should prefer staying at home instead of working till 11, stop telling me I'm unsafe, stop telling me that I should focus on house-hold chores instead of my career. STOP!
I am a woman, I can make my own decisions, I do make my own decisions. Stop bombarding me with what you think, because guess what? I don't a damn about it.
And just when I thought the society is changing for better, guess what happened?
I have an auto-driver fixed who picks me up from home in the morning for college and drops me home in the evening from college. So today I was returning back home in the evening taking the NH24 ( which I must tell you is pretty filled during 6:00 in the evening) a member of CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) stopped my auto-driver and asked (well, not exactly asked) him for a lift and sat on the front seat. Being an independent being, I said no and the response I got from him was, "Madam, hum konsa kuch karenge, badmash, gundey thodi hain" and I was shocked to see the way he said his another friend to sit on the back seat ( the passenger seat where I was sitting) and he literally told me to move inside so he can sit. The second man was not in any recognized uniform was oh so confidently telling me to shift and give him space to sit.
Why are we even asked to carry pepper sprays? Why can't my Mom sleep peacefully at night when I tell her I'll be late? Why can't I wear what I want to?
Why are we forced to carry security equipments with us? Why do YOU make us carry pepper sprays? Why can't I forget my pepper spray at home and be chill about it?
I request the receiver to take a serious action against such nuisance happening around us women, all age groups I must tell you and let us free. It's 2017 for the love of almighty.
I want safety, I want freedom.
