The widening work of National Highway-44 from Panipat to Mukarba Chowk Delhi was started almost four years back and was to be completed long ago.

The project, considered Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream project, has missed its deadline. The agreement was signed in August, 2015 and only 42 per cent of the work has been done on the Rs 2,128.72-crore project, which was expected to be completed by April.

Toll is being collected but the work has either been stopped or going on at a snail’s pace due to which commuters have to face hardship daily. Nobody has bothered to take this matter seriously. The pathetic condition of the road leads to accidents and hours-long jams. The work has now been stopped completely from past few months. The delay has led to problems for commuters, especially at night. This has now become fourth battle of Panipat commuting to and from Delhi.

A total of 1,381 accident cases have been registered in all police stations on NH-44 in the last two-and-a-half years. Also, 405 accidents took place on NH-44 in Sonepat and Panipat districts, in which 329 commuters lost their lives in the past 17 months.

As per the reply received from Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the agency has abandoned the project.

I have started this petition so that the plight of common people falls on deaf ears of the government and if we are fortune enough, they will listen and start the work on project immediately.
