Putting an end to the increasing menace of plastic waste in India.

"We're sitting on a plastic time bomb", the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India chillingly declared in the spring of 2013.
More than 15,000 tonnes of plastic waste are generated in India everyday, of which 6,000 tonnes remain uncollected and littered, according to the late Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Anil Dave. The lack of awareness and absence of effective tools to collect back the discarded plastic products including the wrapping material has led to the indiscriminate littering and disposal of plastic waste. From the agricultural sector, to the tourism sector, there is not a single sector of the Indian economy, which isn't being affected by this hazard.
Apart from the already significant environmental impact, the reckless disposal of plastic waste also spoils the image of our nation. International media outlets like CNN and BBC frequently display images of polythene bags and other waste strewn on the roads. Even online Q&A websites like Quora have foreigners discussing how the potential of Indian tourism is being destroyed due to this problem.
I believe this issue is a fundamental part of the Prime Minister's "Swacch Bharat Abhiyan" and deserves more attention than it gets.
Unfortunately, the more we wait, the more time these pollutants get to poison the very soil of our nation. The Government of India is constitutionally mandated to maintain the environment of our nation, and the government needs to take immediate steps to curb this menace. The Government needs to improve the waste collection and disposal mechanisms to protect the habitat of our nation.
