Nominating Third Gender in Parliament & State Assemblies by replacing Anglo Indian Quota
Nominating Third Gender in Parliament & State Assemblies by replacing Anglo Indian Quota
Why this petition matters

I, Anumula Revanth Reddy, Member of Indian Parliament from Malkajgiri constituency, Telangana State
I wish to bring to your notice that as we are approaching the Platinum Jubilee of our Independence it is important that we give political representation to one of the most marginalized communities of our country – The Third Gender. India needs to become a torchbearer of Social Justice and send the message to the world. Our history has shown the direction to the world and so should our present.
At Present, there are only a few thousand Anglo Indians left in the country for whom seats are reserved in the Parliament & the state assemblies. It is high time we should do away with this reservation as the community is very much Indian now and as generally the Anglo Indian community is well to do. Reservation is an affirmative action to rectify our previous wrongdoings, to bring the marginalized, downtrodden in par with the society and it is high time that not just the simple reservation but Political Reservation be given to the Third Gender Community.
As the Parliament is going to pass the extension of reservation for Schedule Cast and Schedule Tribes in the Lok Sabha and the State Assemblies for another 10 years in the current winter session of the parliament, it is important that at the same time we do away with Article 334 (b) of the constitution which allows member of the Anglo Indian Community to be nominated in the Parliament & state Assemblies and the same nomination be provided to Third gender Community for their adequate political representation. In the past seventy years, they have been ignored in the electoral system and therefore it is necessary that we bring them through nomination or by reserving seats for them.
Replacing the reservation will not add to the burden of reserving more seats and at the same time, it will ensure representation from the community of millions of people who have never been adequately represented.
Therefore I request all to please sign the petition to ensure that social justice is done. We have always ignored the Third Gender Community and its high time we bring them in the Parliament and State Assemblies so that they can raise their community’s concerns with full voice and the progress of the community of millions of people can happen. Third Gender Political Representation is the need of the hour.
