Article 21 of the Indian Constitution concerns "Right to Good Health". The state of health care in government hospitals and health care centers if dismal at best. The private hospitals are exploiting this very situation to a criminal extent.
Exorbitant bills, supplies and medicines billed but never used, negligence, etc. have become so common and accepted that one never even discusses the situation. Health is equivalent to life. Why are we taking our lives so lightly? Why is the government letting the hospitals get away with such practices?
Yes, you can make laws but given the reality of India very few situations actually come to light (though the media should be commended for doing their part in highlighting and raising all instances that come to their notice), rarely is any effective action taken. The fact is that there is no real deterrent for the hospitals to stop acting the way they are.
If the government were to take over the health expenses of the people, as is the practice in a lot of the countries around the world, such malpractices can be reduced to a considerable expense.
