Recognise that modern families do not have a 'one size fits all' solution and postpone the 1 April 2015 Child Support changes until they can more fairly reflect real families in New Zealand

Changes to New Zealand Child Support from the 1st of April 2015 will redefine 'dependent children' for the purposes of child support assessments to only include biological children.
This change is completely out of line with the modern New Zealand family where in many cases people remarry after relationship break ups, often resulting in new family groups.
The changes to the Child Support formula do not take into account children who may be living with a Non-Custodial Parent (NCP) on a full time basis unless they are the biological children of the NCP. This is despite the fact that the NCP may well provide for those non-biological children in exactly the same manner as their biological children.
There are a number of examples on www.childsupportnz.com showing the extremely high financial impact this is having on NCP's.
Mr. McClay and Ms. Ferguson - The changes, while intended to create more fairness in the child support system, are having the opposite affect of creating harsh financial burdens for NCP's who have moved on in their lives. I strongly urge you to delay the April 1 2015 changes until a fairer, more realistic formula that takes into account a persons FULL family situation can be devised.
