We, the residents of 02 Herb Street Nano student accommodation petition Nano management to reinstate our recently dismissed building manager, Nokuthula Dlepu.

Nokuthula is a single parent with two children and, she is the longest serving building manager at Nano. We believe the grounds she was dismissed under are unfair. Nokuthula Dlepu was dismissed for allegedly letting in a group of 5 people into the 02 Herb Street Nano building on the 19th of August 2021, with one of the individuals allegedly carrying a beer bottle. It is our understanding that the said individual was escorted out of the building by Miss Nokuthula Dlepu 20 minutes after he entered and, no student was harmed. We believe that the said incident does not warrant to dismissal of the building manager, as she was on leave at the time of the incident, and she didn't immediately notice the beer bottle because she was in a hurry to go home to her kids. Even if the incident is true, we believe that Nano management unfairly treated Miss Nokuthula Dlepu, by Showing favouritism to certain employees.

There are videos where students have cases of beers inside the Miller student accommodation premises, they were seen drinking, and no one was held accountable. There is even an incident where Miller tenants were drinking in bottles and ended up breaking a window, no management was held accountable. We then call upon investigations to be done and Miller manager Miss Olivia to be held accountable. We thus like to remind Nano management that they also served students alcohol in bottles at the rooftop on 02 Herb Street, we are then alarmed that Miss Dlepu was dismissed for one person who entered the building with a bottle of alcohol for less than 25 minutes.

We would also like to remind Nano management of two incidents where, Lerato, Nano's marketing manager, on the first incident physically attacked a student near the lifts of 02 Herb Street in full view of other students. Moreover, on the second incident her boyfriend who was hired to DJ last year ended up physically attacking students. No disciplinary hearing was called, and she is still part of Nano management. In comparison, Miss Dlepu's incident is less serious, we then demand accountability for Miss Lerato's actions.

We believe Miss Nokuthula Dlepu is being made a scapegoat for the poor service delivery in the building, the Wi-Fi instability and water shortages have nothing to do with Miss Dlepu.  For a black single parent to be dismissed for a trivial incident is unacceptable, she bought students electricity from her own pocket, she gave evicted students transport money to return home and on strikes she was pepper sprayed with them. She is for the students and the students are for her.

Conclusion

We then call upon the student populace, especially nano tenants to join us in condemning this injustice. To boycott paying rent and, to issue cancelation of leases on the 25th of September if Miss Dlepu is still not reinstated. We cannot let this inhumane treatment of a black single mother continue any longer ...#HandsOffNokx
