COVID 19 has led to the University operating very limited services on campus, with a heavy effect on people's degrees and learning experience. A small minority will abuse the limited bookable spaces, and this means there will be a lack of fairness. For a lot of students this service is essential as many live in poor housing conditions, don't have access to the internet, books, a quiet space to work, a desk or even a laptop. For many students, the library is essential; it provides all these things. With many other public spaces and libraries closed or running at a reduced capacity, there's tremendous pressure on students. The Library's policy will not help students at all, straining our learning experience and exacerbating anxieties. We propose a 'one in one out' system so people can queue if they want, allowing services to be accessible for all students. We propose that you operate the library at half capacity, close every other desk for social distancing, put protective screens around and ramp up cleaning. Students pay an inordinate amount of money to have this specific service. By closing the library it is unfair advantage for certain people as we still have to complete work to the same standard as before COVID-19. Let's change this and open the main library!
