Stephanie Brentnall started this petition to Representative Nancy Pelosi and

I am a graduate occupational therapy student (OTS) supporting mental health services for children in the United States education system. Mental health services in schools are critical for preventing mental health disorders, substance abuse, incarceration, and suicide later on. The H.R. 1109 bill (Mental Health Services for Students Act 2019) created by Congresswoman Grace Napolitano (D) in February 2019, supports funding for receiving support for mental health services in school systems to increase preventative screening, interprofessional training, and research on evidence-based practice. In these unprecedented times, it is critical to raise awareness about mental health in our youth and prevent them from going through preventable mental health concerns later in their lives.

By signing this petition, this bill can move out of the primary stage of legislation and move closer to becoming federal law. Currently, the bill is in the House of Representatives Committee of Energy and Commerce. The sooner this bill becomes law, the more children that we can save. Children are the face of the future and with your help, we can help provide services that will equip them with tools to navigate the world around them.
