My name is Max Land and I am an 8th grader at Marin Horizon School. Recently, I wrote an essay about the Japanese-American Internment for a school project. I really enjoyed learning about such an interesting topic, especially because my grandmother was one of the 110,000 Japanese Americans locked up. It amazed me how the U.S government could do this to a racial group. What surprised me, even more, was that our government is still doing it.
During my research process, I unearthed an interesting aspect of immigration in our country. More specifically, the detention centers for immigrants as they cross the border. Families are being separated and there is a lack of sanitation. These detention centers are just like the internment camps from World War II. Don’t let history repeat itself.
I wanted to inform people about this issue in our country so I wrote an informatory paper about it. I gathered signatures of classmates, in hopes they would be informed and would support this letter to you. I would really appreciate it if you could do something to help change this. Just sign this petition and maybe we can change this.

We need to stop the barbaric treatment of these camps and make sure history doesn't repeat itself.
