Ending homelessness one step at a time!
Why this petition matters
Children's Day School in San Francisco has recognized the major housing crisis in major cities like Seattle, San Francisco, and others. To combat this, we were getting signatures in order to show support for this issue and got over five hundred, but the Coronavirus has stopped us from going outdoors for further petitioning.
We, the 2020 class of Children's Day school and the undersigned propose to support people experiencing homelessness throughout California and the US as a whole. We believe the human right to housing is self - evident and must be implemented with attention, diligence, and dignity. As it is the most prominent issue in the Bay Area, as well as other populous cities, with the housing crisis that continues to grow due to high rent costs and gentrification. In order to solve this housing problem, we support:
- Building more affordable housing on a sliding scale and providing housing for
every person living in America. - Any legislation that would transfer funds to build affordable housing
- Programs that help the unhoused adjust to the mainstream with medical care, job training, and substance rehabilitation.
- An increase in funding for the food stamp program, diverting 1 - 1.5% of the U.S.’s military budget to this cause.
- Raising the minimum wage on a statewide level to a living wage, differing between housing costs particular to those cities.
- Supporting politicians who prioritize solving the issue of homelessness.
- Bringing to light the dire situation of housing, and the insufficient funding that has gone into the project.
