On March 3, 2019, Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH), the ranking member on the House Judiciary Committee, tweeted the following antisemitic message:

"Nadler feeling the heat big time. Jumps to Tom $teyer’s conclusion—impeaching our President—before first document request."

Steyer's father is Jewish, and replacing the 's' in his last name is a common practice among online antisemites. As the website http://myjewishlearning.com has written "[t]he idea that Jews are innately good with money is among the oldest Jewish stereotypes, one that continues to impact perceptions of Jews today." (https://www.myjewishlearning.com/article/usury-and-moneylending-in-judaism/) Furthermore, the same article contends that perpetuating this stereotype, as Jordan clearly did in his tweet, has well-defined consequences in the real world:

"Supposed Jewish control of the global financial system — a feature of what some call economic anti-Semitism — was a major theme in Hitler’s war against European Jews, Father Coughlin’s anti-Semitic rants in the United States, and the czarist forgery The Protocols of the Elders of Zion.  Related slurs include claims that Jews are wealthy, greedy and stingy, obsessed with material goods and profit, and that they exploit their economic advantages to help their own people, to the detriment of the public good."

Speaker Pelosi has introduced a resolution condemning a tweet by a backbencher in her own party. Jim Jordan, however, is a member of the House Republican leadership, in a position to do much greater damage to society than a young woman still feeling her way through the customs and mores of the Congress.

He deserves censure. Let's call on the Speaker to act.
