Abolish Daylight Savings Time

Daylight savings time (DST) was instituted in 1916, two years into WWI. Back then, electricity was a fairly new commodity, and production and distribution of it were limited, so adding an hour of daylight to the evening actually did save electricity. Today, we live in a 24/7 society, consuming electricity around the clock, negating any possible savings.
There is no longer any reason to continue this inconvenient and even dangerous practice. In the week after changing the clock, accidents increase, work productivity goes down, medical conditions are negatively impacted and general chaos ensues, as people adjust to the sudden change. With no benefit, and numerous negative consequences, this archaic practice needs to be a footnote in history, not a biannual inconvenience. Seventy countries around the world observe DST. Let America lead the way in abolishing this useless practice.
