The Namibian Ornamental Fish keeping Community wishes to petition against the current list of ban species for importation into Namibia.The current list used by the Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries of Namibia dated 1st of April 2010 is highly outdated.Species that are very sensitive to Namibian native waterways that will not survive at all in the wild are still illegal for importation.Species for example such as Microgeophagus Ramirezi , Lake Malawi Cichlids, Lake Victoria Cichlids, Lake Tanganyika Cichlids etc just to name a few are excluded and not allowed for importation into Namibia. The list of ban species are endless and some species makes logical sense to ban. Unfortunately there are species that are still illegal that does not make any sense what so ever. By signing this petition we declare that we as the Ornamental Fish keeping society of Namibia needs a wider variety of Ornamental Aquatic species available. Our petition will be handed over to the related authorities. We hope that the aim of this petition is a small step into a better relationship with the Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries of Namibia to work together with the public.
