Name the next aircraft carrier (CVN-81) The USS Saratoga
The name Saratoga is a legacy name and should be continued.
- Secretary of the Navy
- Chief of Naval Operations
Admiral Jonathan Greenert
In 1780 a 18 gun sloop was commissioned to commemorate the Revolutionary War battle of Saratoga, New York. From 1780 until 1994 there have been six ships named Saratoga. The last ship to carry the name Saratoga was decommissioned in 1994.
THEREFORE, we the undersigned petition the Honorable Ray Mabus, Secretary of the Navy; and Admiral Jonathan Greenert, Chief of Naval Operations to name the next Ford class aircraft carrier (CVN-81) the USS Saratoga. In honor of the men who fought the Revolutionary War battle and in honor of those who have served aboard a USS Saratoga through our nation's naval history.
