Heat the Macksville 50m Pool

0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,000!

For 8 years members of the Nambucca Shire have been trying to get the Council to heat the 50m outdoor pool.  This is a community pool that services nearly 20,000 residents in the Nambucca Valley Shire.  We are one of the only, if not the only, local government area between Tweed Heads and Sydney that doesn't have access to a council run 25m or 50m heated pool.

So far, we have received over 50 letters of support from schools, aged and disability organisations, health professionals and other sporting groups and individuals within the Valley as well as 300 signatures which have all been submitted to the Council. We also have a Heat the Macksville Pool Facebook group (feel free to join us)!  But this has not yet been enough for them to heat the pool so we NEED your support!

The benefits that this can provide our ENTIRE community are exponential and are greater than any one individual or sport.  Swimming is a skill that CAN save lives.  Time and again we hear of drownings at beaches, rivers, damns and pools and we are surrounded by all of those!

Our community has limited availability at the current facilities for our children to learn, develop and maintain these potential life saving skills through learn to swim programs and the swim and survive programs in schools.

We also have a large aging population and a number of people living with disabilities in our community who are currently being disadvantaged by the lack of facilities in our area.  Not everyone can run, walk, play football, tennis, golf or other weight bearing activity, but everyone CAN swim - whether it be independently or with assistance.  Being able to stay fit and healthy should end because you become frail aged or live with a disability.

Aside from this the benefits of swimming to physical and mental health for everyone are amazing!!

Knowing how to swim CAN save a life!  Please support us in our mission to heat our great pool.
