May 9th has been declared Election Day in Malaysia, which falls on a Wednesday, so it is a working day for most. As many have to travel back to their hometowns to vote, it is important that this day be declared a public holiday, in order to provide equity and access to all voters, so that voters do not have to decide between their own livelihood and exercising their rights to vote.

Making May 9th a public holiday will guarantee a higher voter turnout, which will benefit the Malaysian people by ensuring an election that better serves them and their political needs.
