We, the undersigned, ask Nailsea Town Council to sell the fields opposite Engine Lane to Barratt Homes to provide 195 houses for the local community. Nailsea Action Group do not speak for a large proportion of our residents.

Many young people who have grown up in Nailsea are having to move out of the town to be able to afford a property. We are losing the next generation, while building substantial retirement properties over the last few years little has been done for the families and first time buyers.

New houses open up access to the "Help to Buy" scheme- a short example on a £200,000 purchase price. Help to Buy Mortgage at 75%- £150,000, Deposit from Purchaser- £10,000, Total contribution from Help to Buy- £160,000. Equity Loan at 20%- £40,000. Even with a starting price of £220,000, this is still a lot more achievable with incentives than current prices in Nailsea that are sending our families elsewhere.

Our schools are undersubscribed- this year we had 23 town wide spaces available for reception intake in primary, and a staggering 86 spaces available in secondary for Y7 intake. Our secondary school has recently been granted funding for a minibus to look into transporting children in from neighbouring towns and villages. We also have two outstanding independent primary schools in neighbouring Backwell and Wraxall- not all those who purchase homes here will use state education.

A development of this size will only add around 100 vehicles to traffic at peak hours- and this development has the potential to add walkways and other traffic calming measures. Our town needs this development- for the next generation and to keep our families and young people here. For them, we hope you will approve the sale of this land.
