Ellen Tinsley started this petition to Chief Deputy Secretary, NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources and

We, the signers of this petition, made to help protect our National Symbol, embodied in the lives of the Bald Eagle parents at the nest located at Shelter 8 of the Ebenezer Day-Use Area, Jordan Lake State Recreation Area, ask that the following changes be made:

1) close the vehicle gate to Picnic Area A, Shelter 8 and leave it closed until any bald eagle chicks at the nest are fledged
2) open the vehicle gate to Picnic Area B, Shelter 2 so visitors still have access to the peninsula
3) place sturdy information signs on the shelter 8 vehicle gate, shoreline, trail crossings
4) educate the public by putting information on the Jordan Lake State Recreation Area web site explaining the closure of Shelter 8 and giving proper bald eagle etiquette guidelines
5) begin the process of evaluating the possibility of a WebCam at this nest

The closure of Shelter 8 to the public will not bring harm to any humans, but if the gate is left open the danger is great that these parent eagles will not be able to successfully raise a family of eaglets this breeding season.
