Axolotls are an amphibious salamader-like creature that havbe been domesticated into the aquarium trade. Axolotls are native to lake Xochimilco and are studied by many scientists due to their regenerative abilities. Their name roughly translates into "water god" due to the fact that they were believed to be the reincarnation of the ancient god Xolotl. They are also known as the Mexican walking fish (even though they aren't fish).
