There is so much stigma and unawareness surrounding topics like consent, mental health, the LGBTQ+ community, and other such topics. In 2015, the Ontario government made changes to the sexual education curriculum that would address these issues and begin to educate younger students about them. Most importantly, it would be a first step in normalizing them.

However, Doug Ford (Ontario's current premier) has decided to revert the providence's sexual education curriculum back to a curriculum from the 1990's. This will effectively prevent students from being exposed to topics like online safety, same sex marriage, and sexual consent at younger ages.

The first step in trying to stop the stigma around these issues is properly educating about and demystifying these topics to students, starting at a young age.
