Many girls are pulled out of class in front of everyone, embarrassed, and sexualized for what they wear. Boys can wear shorts that go past their finger tips but girls can’t, why? Because girls apparently don’t look at boys in a distracting manner. How are girls shoulders distracting? Everyone has shoulders. Why can’t we wear leggings? Girls just want to express their selves but are told it’s distracting for all the wrong reasons. It’s not a YOUNG GIRLS RESPONSIBILITY to not express their selves for BOYS. Ridiculous. Disgusting. Not only that but it is offensive to young men. Giving them the idea that they don’t have self control. This needs to change now. Boys can figure out how to do y=mx+b without focusing on a girls shoulder. Schools need to stop giving men that idea. Bottom line is that the school dress code is sexist. Why don’t the boys get in trouble for being distracted? And I’ve heard it’s so the MALE TEACHERS don’t get distracted. Girls have the right to express ourselves, and I’m not talking about wearing very innapropriate things, I’m saying, if we wanna wear a tank top that’s not 3 fingers wide, then we should be able to. We shouldn’t be embarrassed and sexualized in school for showing our shoulders, and as much skin as their own male class mates.  One time I was in 7th grade, and I was wearing a long cardigan and a black T with some black leggings. The teacher pulled me upfront of the whole class. Lectured me. And started pinning up my cardigan only where the ‘crotch’ area was showing. Are you kidding me? I had to walk around the rest of the day in bright pink safety pins when I was SO confident that day because my mom bought me that outfit the day prior. I went home and cried. I was 12. Not okay. This needs to change.
