We are sending this message for our brother, a husband and dad, Officer Andrew Wall of the Monroe, Ct Police Department and his family.
Andy was diagnosed with terminal stage four Glioblastoma brain cancer in September of 2015. He was told to prepare for the worst. This is an unforgiving, fatal cancer. It is through sheer determination to live, bravery, the fantastic clinical trial department at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the grace of God that Andy is in full remission. He is ready and very able to return to a job that he loves.
He has served the community of Monroe as an exemplary and decorated officer for over 20 years. He is well-loved and supported by local business owners and townspeople alike. Andrew has been to hell and back fighting for his life when he was told there was no hope. He fought for his wife Lori and their 12 year old son Andy Jr.
The problem began when the chief of police, John Salvatore, decided to begin termination proceedings instead of welcoming Officer Wall back to work. Andy has medical clearance notes from Dr.Kloss, Head of Oncology at Danbury Hospital and Dr. David Reardon Clinical Director at Center for Neuro-Oncology at Dana-Farber Boston. Both Doctors are well renowned, particularly Dr. Reardon who also did Senator McCain's recent brain surgery. These notes were accepted to stop his disability payments as he is cleared to work, but the Chief didn't find them acceptable to take Andy back to work. (Head spinner) How a Police Chief could take it upon himself to decide he knows better than two dedicated and highly knowledgeable Oncologists is outrageous. And how does First Selectman Vavrek explain his inaction? With total silence. He does not respond to calls and emails nor to complaints that have been filed.
Andy knows the job challenges and requirements, after being on duty over for over 20 years and working through the Sandy Hook tragedy. He knows that he can do his job in full capacity and with honor.
EIGHT months later the department STILL hasn't give him a return date. Officer Wall would like to start back to work as soon as possible, tomorrow even.
Please help us be heard and help end this awful and disgraceful treatment.
The Wall and Keckler Families
Dear Senator Blumenthal and Senator Murphy,
We ask you to help Officer Andy Wall, who beat terminal stage four Glioblastoma brain cancer. The exact cancer Senator McCain was diagnosed with. In fact they both were cared for by Dr Reardon, of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Now, unbelievably, eight months later he's still fighting for his job. After being cleared to work by both Dr. Reardon and Dr. Kloss the Town of Monroe, Ct has acted in a shameful and disgraceful manner. They've refused to release information that should be available to the public- how much of the tax payers money have they paid the Town Attorney on this debacle for one. This decorated, well respected Officer deserves to be reinstated. He has stood with our Town through twenty two years of service. He, as well as his fellow Officer's were front and center throughout the horrors of Sandy Hook. They were all honored to watch over the children as they spent three years going to school in our town.
Please help us get to the bottom of this and get Officer Wall back to work. That's all he wants. He deserves better then this.
