The dress-code at MVMS has been a huge issue for me and many other girls who attend. It has gotten to the point where I’ve seen friends of mine miss whole classes due to being pulled out and made to change into clothes that they feel uncomfortable wearing. Ex: oversized shirts, men’s sweatpants, and even men’s shorts. It distracts a class way more to see a girl get in trouble for breaking dress code more than any tank top, shorts, or midriff ever could. It also distracts the girl who got dress-coded from thinking clearly afterwards which impairs the girl’s ability to focus. The dress code also disproportionately affects girls who are more developed which teaches us to be ashamed of our bodies at an age that is severely damaging to our self esteem and mental health. If our school truly cared about our mental wellness they would attack the issue at the route and modify our dress-code to include outfits that make us feel comfortable with who we are. A girl should never have to be ashamed for her body simply because an administrator tells us to. It’s so severely important to the girls at our school that this dress-code is changed. It would simply make us feel more comfortable and ready to learn than ever before. Thank you for supporting us and our request. -the students at MVMS
