Hi I am Soren Ollanketo. I am a Sophomore at Waterford Union Highschool. I’m creating this petition because I want to tell you the negativity that has been caused for the students that attend Waterford because of banning AirPods and music. Such as Waterford Union Highschool taking action to ban headphones/airpod usage during study hall unless used for educational use. The use of not listening to music has caused many restless students during the school day and in study hall. According to Mayo Clinic ‘music soothes, energizes, and inspires.” Mayo Clinic has also said “it also fortifies pathways in your brain that neurologists say can lead to a better understanding of cognition” Yes, some teachers may play music out loud but not all do. And especially in study hall when we are tired, trying to find the energy to stay awake, and the motivation to study, music helps us achieve those things. But now we all are in study hall restless, tired, and we feel less academically focused. And if anything I feel like the airpod usage should be left up to the teachers and should be allowed in study hall.
