Kayla Cocci started this petition to Music Industries and Artists

This petition is in regards to changing the language of our music industry. During this eye-opening time due to the much needed Black Lives Matter movement, I began to really think about the racial language we use on an everyday basis and where it stems from. Incidents occur in the news and in our everyday lives of a white person who says the n-word. Whether or not it is in a derogatory and vile way, it is completely uncalled for, but if we truly want to educate each other, if we truly want to get rid of a word that holds so much ill feeling for us, then we should stop casually using it to greet one another. We should stop casually singing the word on the radio to artists that use the word in their songs and call it music. If we believe it wrong for a child, a student, or a white person to say the word, why would we publicize this word and bring fame to it in our music industry? What do we say to white teens and young adults who are simply listening to their favorite rapper? Do we say stop being white? You shouldn't say that word. But I am allowed to use it because I am black. The world does not work that way. If you do not want people to associate the n word with you, then don't use the word. There is much to be said on black people using the n word. And then white people use it because they associate the word meaning “homie” or they associate the word with their favorite music. We are not defined by the n-word. So let's start by cutting out the word in our music that we associate ourselves with. Sign this petition to let the music industries know that we do not want to buy any more albums that have the n-word! Let's change our language!
