Keep the Medicine Wheel in Place

Medicine Wheel Petition Update!

Since writing this petition, the City has informed us that the Medicine Wheel will remain in place until after the Indian Residential School Survivors (IRSS) Legacy Celebration in October. At that point, it will decide with community representatives where to put the Medicine Wheel permanently. We believe that the Medicine Wheel’s permanent position has already been wisely chosen — front and centre beside the name of our city. Displacing it after a few months to a less prominent position would be a symbolic reenactment of the failed treaty relationship. In this time of Truth and Reconciliation we are trying to correct this pattern; we do not want to continue replicating it. We call on Toronto Council Fire Native Cultural Centre and the Municipal Government of Toronto to honour the nation-to-nation relationship and keep the Medicine Wheel in place. Please share this petition to make a strong show of support for keeping the Medicine Wheel beside the Toronto sign in front of City Hall.
