This petition is to create awareness among people about the environmental and health hazards of dumping garbage right in the middle of residential areas and thus creating a huge wastelands and to Request the Corporation of every metro city in India to stop doing it.

1) The dumpsters may contain e-waste and Bio-medical waste from all over the cities.Burning them causes irreversible damage to the air and the underground water quality, sub-surface water quality is highly affected.

2)These lands were once Marshland and they act as natural flood-control agents to absorb /trap the flood water and reduces the speed and distributes it to the flood plain. Encroaching such Marshland and converting them into wasteland is doing no good for the environment.

3) This Petition is also to create awareness about ways in which public can contribute to source segregating wastes as non-recyclable and recyclable items, so that in this way the recyclable items can be moved to locations specific to them and not contributing to the whole dumpsters. If the waste is segregated at home, it is easy to dispose. It saves time, energy and money. Also make some of household wastes like fruit/vegetable wastes into composts, which in turn can serve as food for the plants to grow thus by closing the loop.

4) The toxic wastes from burning namely Benzene,Acrolein are highly carnicogic and long time exposure to them causes harmful effects on skin, eyes, heart and other respiratory organs.

5)The solid waste can seep into our groundwater and they are carried by rainwater to rivers and lakes which in turn affects the wildlife habitats in sea. The decrease in vegetation abundance is also a factor to consider here.

Considering all the above Environmental and health hazards, its a request to the Municipal corporation of every city in India to stop doing this. Public: Make conscious decision about source segregation at home.
