Rivers are the most integral part of our ecosystem. They are the major source of water for agricultural purposes, drinking water, electricity etc. These rushing waves of rapid flowing water, are a major attraction for the tourism industry nowadays. Tourists carry lots of food and trash with them and carelessly dump them in the rivers and lakes near them. This subjects the river to a lot of pollution, thus making it smell and look dirty.

Alongside this issue, the construction of dams, is negatively affecting rivers. The dams divert water towards agricultural uses causing the rest of the river to remain low and sedimented with garbage. When farmers draw water from the river using the dam, then they distribute it over the irrigated area; due to this the river discharge is reduced, thus, slowing it down. Due to the sedimentation of all the garbage, more erosion could occur; it could change the river's shape, maybe even turn it into an oxbow lake. Thus, steps should be taken to prosecute violators who are damaging the rivers. These violations can include dumping garbage or any sort of waste in the rivers or misuse of the river freshwater. The dumping of chemical waste or muddy water from irrigation is also considered as a violation. Violators can include both tourists and localists. Any violators should be fined and demanded to help in restoring the river back to its original state by removing the waste from the rivers. This should be enforced as the current laws are proving to be inefficient as even after reinforcing them they are not being followed. Another way to save rivers is by using the abilities of dams. They consist of flushing, sluicing, dredging, and hydro suctioning etc. This will contribute in the removal of waste from the bottom of the dam, thus keeping it clean.

If you sign this petition, then you will be contributing in the restoring the Musi river back to its original state. By signing this, we will be able to enforce laws and change from harmful engineering tools to methods that will not affect the river negatively. We will attempt to make sure that the river water will no more be contaminated and used for wrong purposes. Lets save the Musi River.
