Make Saturdays A Holiday (5 day week) - Mumbai University

Make Saturdays A Holiday (5 day week) - Mumbai University
The Issue
The colleges under Mumbai University are required to hold classes even on Saturdays. ( Mumbai University, located in Mumbai, India, has several hundred colleges affiliated with it. It makes the rules and regulations which these affiliated colleges follow. )
Students feel that holding classes on saturdays is unnecessary since these classes could be easily fitted into their schedules during the week.
Not having a proper weekend gives rise to higher stress levels .Further, no time is available for students to do anything outside of college. By the time the classes on saturday end, the students are tired and only get a day's time to do anything else before starting another hectic week of college.
Even Delhi University, known to be the one of the best in the whole country, does not hold classes on saturdays. This is similiar to the practice being followed by many other universities throughout the country. This shows that it is unecessary for Mumbai University to hold classes during the weekend. Furthermore, even the best universities throughtout the world understand the importance of a proper weekend.
The students of Mumbai University should be given equal amount of consideration and empathy. They do not get any time to pursue activities outside of college because of the strict attendance policy which makes it mandatory to attend college even on saturdays. Thousands of students face this problem.
Mumbai University should consider the well being and betterment of its students, give importance to the learning that happens outside of classrooms, and allow their students to have a 5-day-week.
The Education Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Vinod Tawde, is humbly requested to help us with this matter, and further the students' concerns to Mumbai University, and help make learning more holistic throughout Mumbai and if possible, throughout the state of Maharashtra.
